FSAN Urged NAFDAC, SON To Intensify Surveillance On Domestic And Foreign Consumables

Food Security Association Of Nigeria (FSAN) have called on the National Agency For Food And Drugs Administration And Control (NAFDAC) and the Standards Organisation Of Nigeria(SON) to intensify surveillance on domestic and imported consumables in order to protects the citizens from bad products.

The association made the call in a press release issued to journalist in Kano, by it’s National president Ambassador Idris Ahmed where FSAN describes many products as contaminated and substandard being sold especially at local markets and shops.

“We monitor the sales of some food items and realized that most of the products are expired or somehow very dangerous for human consumption, that is why we decided to called on the authorities concerned to checkmate the bad products in our markets to safeguard the citizens from fallen victims”.

The statement further disclosed that ” Most of the diseases and ilness that resulted in the hospitalization of many patients were due to consuming bad food mostly produced in Nigeria and imported from foreign countries, but through routine surveillance, bad products shall be culled out from retails shops and other open markets”.

In conclusion, FSAN called on NAFDAC, SON and similar agencies including local government sanitary officers as well as the general public to observe with full attention how good items and other consumables were being sold without profer sanity.
