Fuel, Naira note crisis: CSO urges DSS to intervene

A Civil Society Organization,CSO, Center For Human Rights & Accountability Network (CHRAN),  has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to intervene in the unending fuel scarcity and unavailability of the redesigned Naira notes in Akwa Ibom.

State Director of CHRAN, Comrade Franklyn Isong made the call when he led the group on a courtesy visit to the State Director of the DSS, Mr. M. Modibbo and his management team in Uyo yesterday.

Isong lamented the untold hardship and suffering the continued hoarding of fuel and the redesigned Naira notes have subjected Akwa Ibom people to, urging the DSS to use its intelligence network to fish out those responsible for what the CHRAN Chief described as “economic sabotage.”

He commended the professionalism of the officers and men of the DSS in Akwa Ibom Command, saying that the DSS has maintained a good human rights record since the coming of Mr. Modibbo as its State Director.

He explained that CHRAN is a responsible organization with strong belief in constructive engagement of government and agencies of government on policies of government that impart negatively on the masses, before mobilizing the people on a protest against such harmful policies thus, the visit to the DSS, knowing the role that the DSS plays in the country. 

Modibbo, in his response lauded Isong and members of CHRAN for coming to engage the Service on the two critical issues of fuel scarcity and unavailability of the redesigned Naira notes, instead of mobilizing the people and go on a protest. 

The State Director explained the efforts of the DSS and government on resolving the two issues in the state, assuring that normalcy is returning  gradually to both sectors of the economy.
