Ibadan, Oyo State – The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has issued a plea to the Federal Government to take action in stabilizing gas prices and ensuring its accessibility to ordinary Nigerians.

During the 36th annual general meeting/conference of the association, themed ‘Expanding Gas Utilization Beyond Imagination,’ NALPGAM’s National President, Abideen Olatunbosun, underscored the urgency of the situation, warning that if the rising prices were left unaddressed, gas could become a luxury for the wealthy few.

Olatunbosun emphasized, “It is crucial for me to highlight that the recent substantial increase in gas prices poses a significant challenge to LPG marketers. The government must find solutions to stabilize gas prices and make it accessible to the average Nigerian. If we do not act to curb these price increases, gas may soon become a privilege limited to a select few in our society.”

“As a nation, we must enhance our utilization of gas resources. Adopting gas as a primary energy source will help conserve our forests, elevate our quality of life, and promote economic growth. The escalating gas prices are a concern shared by all.”

In his lecture, Guest Speaker Prof. Sunday Isehunwa, from the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, identified several challenges facing the LPG market in Nigeria. These challenges included shifts in demand and supply, fluctuations in natural gas production and consumption, price variations, and issues related to electricity pricing.
