Go Green Project Design To Cement Government’s Effort To Improving Afforestation

Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji stated this yesterday while in the NTA Hausa Discussion Program “Mujallar Lahadi”

Alhaji Altine Shehu who is also the Executive Chairman of Shehu Maikoli Foundation,one of the partners of the GO GREEN Project said the partnership is solely aimed at reviving the culture of tree planting in the minds of the citizenry in their homes and farms to protect the environment.

According to him it is to ensure sustainability of such culture especially for the benefit of the generation yet unborn,the project therefore deemed it imperative to instill such habit into the minds of children who are the leaders of tomorrow.

This he explained will be done through reviving and establishment of Orchards and Gardens as well as establishment of Young Foresters Clubs in basic schools both public and private across the state.

Kajiji explained that the GO GREEN Project which is a partnership between Shehu Maikoli Foundation, Eco Africa Climate Change Foundation and the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Sokoto State Council has currently ten thousand variety of tree seedlings that included economic and environmental trees for distribution to schools and communities free.

He said  effort is being made to boost the GO GREEN Project across Nigeria and the whole of Africa i.e “GO GREEN NIGERIA” and “GO GREEN AFRICA”

Commenting the NUJ Ex-Officio who is also a members of the GO GREEN Project implementation committee Sirajo Dalhatu Sifawa said the State Council of the NUJ deemed it necessary to enter into the partnership in view of the significance of the project to protecting the environment.

Sifawa said considering the fact that the world is becoming dynamic nowadays, the NUJ apart from educating and enlightening the society on issues that have direct bearing to people has now adjust to partnering in programs that are designed to improve the lives and safety of people such as the GO GREEN.

He said a part from distribution of tree seedlings and establishment of Orchards and Gardens in schools,the project has produce various radio and television jingles on the importance of tree planting.

In his comment the Project Manager GO GREEN Project Comrade Aliyu Abubakar Shehu appreciated the way and manner people across the state welcome the project.

Comrade Aliyu Abubakar said this can be attested to by the way people of Alkammu district come out enmass to collect the seedlings during the launching of the project there two weeks ago.

According to him the door of the project is open to any public or private organisations wishing to contribute to its success.
