Gov Alia Condemns Assassination of Health Rights Advocate In Benue State

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of Mr Chris Terfa, a health rights advocate and leader in Nigeria’s development sector.

Mr Terfa was assassinated at his office complex on Nyesom Wike’s road, Makurdi the Benue State capital by yet to be identified assailants.

Until his death, he was the National Chairperson of the National Key Population Health and Rights Network, and the Executive Director of Concerned Youths for Development Initiative (CYDI).

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the Governor who visited the family of the deceased alongside some top government functionaries, expressed deep sorrow over the the tragic incident and extends his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Terfa.

The Governor recalled the deceased’s immense contributions to the health and human rights sectors, particularly his efforts in advocating for the vulnerable populations in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Governor Alia, applauded the prompt action of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of E Division,Barr Daniel Ezeala and his team regarding the investigation aims to uncover further details and identify culprits, adding that a suspect has been arrested and is cooperating with the Police.

He assured the public that the state government is fully committed to ensuring that justice is swiftly served. He directed security agents to ensure that the perpetrators and anyone connected to the dastardly act is apprehended and brought to book.

The statement added that the governor remains focused on working with all stakeholders to maintain peace, security and progress in the state.
