Gov Emmanuel approves N2.2B for payment of gratuity

By Emeka Samuel, Uyo

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has approved the release of N2.25 billion for the payment of gratuity to retired workers in the state employ.

A statement by the state’s Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien made available to newsmen in Uyo yesterday showed that, out of the released sum, N1.25B would be for the payment of gratuities of state pensioners.

The sum of One Billion Naira the statement further added would be for payment of gratuities of retired primary school teachers and local government employees.

It praised Emmanuel for always putting the welfare of workers at the front burner, even in the face of the current economic crises ravaging the entire world.

The statement however advised the affected pensioners to cross-check their names at the Treasury Headquarters in Uyo.

Recall that the Governor on assumption of office in 2015 cleared ten years arrears of gratuities and pensions of retired workers and since then has been working hard to offset the outstanding arrears.
