Gov. Ododo Reaffirms Commitment to Education at PAAU 7th Combined Convocation

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education as a foundation for human capital development and sustainable national growth.Governor Ododo spoke at the 7th Combined Convocation Ceremony and 25th anniversary of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, where he described education as central to nation-building beyond physical infrastructure.“

While roads and buildings are important, it is knowledge, character, and discipline that truly build enduring nations,” the governor said. He paid tribute to the late founder of the institution, Prince Abubakar Audu, describing him as a visionary whose investment in education continues to shape generations.

A major highlight of the address was the full reactivation and accreditation of the university’s MBBS programme, which had been dormant for 12 years. Ododo said the state government has also provided infrastructure, equipment, and manpower to support medical training. The governor added that his administration remains committed to student welfare, noting the continuation of bursary schemes and support initiatives to reduce financial barriers to education.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), citing its impact on infrastructure, research, and staff development at PAAU. Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Abdul Aguye, said all academic programmes have maintained full accreditation for five consecutive years. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Marietu Tenuche disclosed that over 27,000 graduates, including postgraduate degree holders, were produced during the period covered by the convocation.
