Prof.Babagana Umara Zulum of BORNO has visited Biu town over the demise of the emir of Biu, Umar Mustapha Aliyu, who passed on, Tuesday.
The Governor was scheduled to attend the burial of the late monarch on Tuesday but had to shift the trip due to bad weather under which a military chopper could not fly in the bad weather.
However,the deputy governor, Umar Kadafur, who hails from the area was handy and had to leave by road,Tuesday morning, to take charge of affairs ahead of Zulum’s reschedulled visit.
Zulum later departed Maiduguri early Wednesday, in company of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume,representing Southern Borno, State APC Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori and a few members of the state executive council who hail from the southern part of Borno State among others.
He described the late emir as a person of proven integrity and a first class traditional ruler who ruled with absolute honesty and fear of Almighty Allah, stressing that,his demise was a huge loss not only to the people of Biu but the entire state explaning that through out his reign, the royal father has played key role in the promotion of peace and unity in his dormain.
Born on November 9,1940,had a stint with the public service before his appointment as 28th Emir of Biu inJune 1989, where he died on Tuesday at about the age of 80 years old.
Umar MUSTAPHA ALIYU,who has since been burried in Biu town according to Islamic injunctions,left behind to mourn him, four wives, dozens of children and well over 200 grandchildren.
