Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday officially commissioned the remodelled Borno State Hotel in Maiduguri.
The revamped hotel showcases a blend of contemporary design and traditional Borno architecture, according to a statement from the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Bundi.
The hotel now boasts upgraded facilities, including a state-of-the-art conference hall, luxurious suites, and a restaurant serving both local Borno and international cuisine.
Speaking to journalists following the brief ceremony, Governor Zulum emphasized that the project would drive economic growth, create job opportunities for the youth, and generate significant revenue for the state.
He also revealed that his administration has initiated the reconstruction of the Maiduguri International Hotel, another property owned by the Borno State Government.
“The State Hotel has been extensively rehabilitated; my administration is focused on investments that will sustain the state, even without federal allocations,” Zulum said. “One way to achieve this is by revitalizing our previously inactive institutions, and this hotel is one of them.”
“We are committed to diversifying our investments to ensure that we generate revenue beyond the usual federal allocations. During my tenure as governor, I will continue to invest in sectors that will bring long-term benefits to the state,” he added.
Governor Zulum also issued a strong warning to hotel management, stressing that all services provided to the government, public officials, and politicians must be duly paid for.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijani, Head of Service Barrister Mallam Fannami, commissioners, and other senior government officials.
