Gov Zulum constitutes technical committee to determine causes of Alau Dam collapse

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has constituted a committee to examine and ascertain the cause of the collapse of Alau Dam which resulted in the flooding of Maiduguri Metropolis and its surrounding local government areas.

One part of the dam collapsed on September 10 causing severe flooding that displaced nearly 2 million people and destroyed several properties.

The dam was constructed between 1984 and 1986 to provide water for irrigation and domestic use for inhabitants of Maiduguri and its environs, a release signed by Governor Zulum’s SSA new media Abdurrahman Bundi has stated.

The secretary to Borno State Government, Alhahji Bukar Tijani, in a statement on Friday night, announced the committee to comprised 26 man committee persons:

iv. Representative of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) – Member

vi. Representative of Nigerian Institute of Surveyors – Member
vii. Representative of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners – Member
viii. Representative of the University of Maiduguri – Member
ix. Special Adviser to His Excellency on Security – Member
x. Engr. Mohammed Sanda – Member
xi. Engr. Babagana Moruma – Member
xii. Engr. Tahiru Barde Mshelia – Member
xiii. Engr. Kefas Jaduwa – Member
xiv. Surveyor John Nuhu – Member and
xv. Representative of Nigerian Army – Member.

The statement added that the committee would be inaugurated on Saturday at 2:00 pm in the council chamber of the government house.
