Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated the publisher of NewsDiaryOnline, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, on his election as the new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the Governor commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election, noting that the rancour-free process—where most candidates emerged unopposed—reflected the strong bond and mutual respect within the Guild.
Governor Ododo described Mr. Nmodu’s emergence as a demonstration of unity, maturity, and professionalism among members of GOCOP. He urged the new leadership to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability while strengthening the Guild’s commitment to responsible journalism and ethical reporting.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting press freedom, describing the media as a vital partner in deepening democracy and ensuring good governance.
“I congratulate the new leadership of GOCOP and urge members to remain at the forefront of promoting responsible journalism. As an administration, we will continue to expand the frontiers of press freedom as a pillar of democracy while encouraging fairness, accountability, and professionalism in media practice,” Ododo stated.
The Governor also commended GOCOP members for their role in public enlightenment and in disseminating information about government policies and programmes that impact citizens’ lives, describing the Guild as a reliable bridge between government and the people.
Danlami Nmodu emerged President of GOCOP after a keenly contested election held in Lagos, succeeding the immediate past President and publisher of RealNews, Dr. Maureen Chigbo.
