A Group under the auspices of National Youth Alternative Conical (NYAC), has outrightly condemned and rejected the LG elections results held on 19th October 2024, describing it as charade.
The chairman of the Youths Alternative Council, Amb. Comr. Onuh Henry, made the declaration Saturday in an elaborate statements he signed and made available to the press in Kaduna.
He stated that Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM), brazenly announced election results for chairmanship and councillorship positions without conducting a single election in over 8,000 polling units, 255 wards, and 23 Local Government areas across Kaduna State.
The statement reads in parts: “It is with profound disappointment and outrage that I stand before you today, October 19, 2024.
The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) has brazenly announced election results for chairmanship and councillorship positions without conducting a single election in over 8,000 polling units, 255 wards, and 23 Local Government areas across Kaduna State.
This egregious travesty undermines the very fabric of democracy and betrays the trust of the Nigerian people. It is unconscionable that candidates were compelled to pay ₦2 million and ₦500,000 for chairmanship and councillorship positions, respectively, only to have results fabricated without elections.
As the Kaduna State Chairman of the National Youth Alternative Conical (NYAC), I categorically condemn this charade and reject the announcement in its entirety. We demand immediate action:
1. Genuine elections must take place to guarantee citizens’ right to choose their leaders.
2. SIECOM must be held accountable for this gross misconduct.
I urge the distinguished senators from Kaduna State to rise to the occasion, wielding their mandate to protect the people’s interests. The voices of the masses will not be silenced.
To our members across the twenty-three local governments of Kaduna State, we urge you to remain calm and peaceful as we await justice. Your patience and resolve are crucial in this fight for democracy.
We will not tolerate this affront to democracy. We stand for transparency, accountability, and the sacred right of the people to choose their leaders”, it stated.
Recalled that SIECOM chairman Hajara Mohammed on Saturday announced the results of the LG elections with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) wining all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in 23 LGAs of the state.
Similarly, the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also condemned the conduct of the LG elections, describing the entire exercise as a sham.
