Widows across Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga, and Wamba Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State have received food relief as part of a humanitarian initiative led by Zumunta Association USA in collaboration with the Awadzi Center for Empowerment and Education (ACEE) Foundation.
The distribution, which provided widows with 10kg bags of rice, aimed to alleviate the economic burden caused by rising inflation and declining incomes, particularly during the festive season.
In a statement issued on Monday following the distribution event on Sunday, Mr. Sunday Bitrus, National President of Zumunta Association USA and founder of the ACEE Foundation, highlighted the importance of supporting vulnerable groups, particularly widows, who often face the challenge of sustaining families under difficult conditions.
“As a community, we must rise together to support those who are most in need. Widows are often overlooked, yet they carry the burden of sustaining their families under immense pressure,” Mr. Bitrus said. “This initiative underscores our collective responsibility to uplift widows and those in need. Zumunta Association USA remains committed to humanitarian efforts that improve lives.”
The ACEE Foundation, a key partner in the project, reaffirmed its dedication to empowering marginalized groups. A foundation representative stated, “Our partnership with Zumunta Association USA strengthens our resolve to make a positive impact. Together, we are demonstrating the power of collective action in addressing societal challenges.”
Mr. Bitrus, a native of Nasarawa State, also noted that the ACEE Foundation is currently running the SBA Merit Scholarship program for students studying computer science, medicine, and engineering from Nasarawa State.
Beneficiaries of the initiative expressed profound gratitude for the assistance. Mrs. Abigail Audu, a widow from Nasarawa Eggon, shared, “This support means a lot to us. It shows that we are not forgotten during these tough times.”
Similarly, Mrs. Edward Mary from Akwanga remarked, “The timing of this distribution is perfect. It will go a long way in helping us widows. I deeply appreciate the efforts of the Awadzi Foundation.”
Community leaders also commended the initiative for its focus on addressing the immediate needs of widows and their families, especially during a period of heightened economic challenges.
The program underscores the significant role of community organizations and partnerships in bridging the gaps left by economic hardship, bringing hope and relief to vulnerable populations.
