The Movement for the protection of Democracy(MPD) has advised media organisations to always check and balanced their stories before circulation so as to ensure good governance in Nigeria.
Speaking to our correspondent in Kano, the chairman of the association Alhaji Umar Na Jama’a said that some media organisations are in the habit of giving stories without verifying their source just to be the first to break it which is against the journalism ethics.
He added that “. in some cases, media organisations we’re even taken to court for publishing a story which is not verified and sometimes such news often created embarrassment to those mentioned in the news which needs sanity, and I am appealing to news editors to always have an interaction with their correspondents whenever a news was filed to ensure that all is well with the story”.
Alhaji Umar na Jama’a called on the authorities concerned to prosecute media organisations that violated the check and balance tradition and those who publish fake news especially Online platforms to serve as lessons to those who always framed news without verification.
He commended the Nigerian journalists who always discharges their duties effectively especially at present when the country is on the Democratic dispensation, and re assures that MDP would continue to promote peace and unity in Nigeria through public enlightenment on every issue.
