Hardship: Muslim women NGO commences rice distribution targeting 20,000 poor, vulnerable in Northern Nigeria

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Malama Mariya Nasir El-Ladan, the National President of the Initiative for Muslim Women of Nigeria (IMWON), has announced that her organization has started distributing rice to thousands of residents in Kaduna.

This initiative aims to ease the hardship caused by the recent removal of fuel subsidies.

She stated that IMWON is targeting over 20,000 poor citizens including widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities across Kaduna State and other parts of Northern Nigeria.

The goal is to alleviate the struggles faced by vulnerable women in the current economic climate.

Malama Mariya made this announcement in Unguwan Kanawa in Kaduna, Northwestern Nigeria, during the launch of the rice distribution program, weekend.

The initiative covers several areas in Kaduna, including Unguwan Kanawa, Unguwan Sarki, Kurmin Mashi, Abakwa, Kawo, Unguwan Dosa, Badarawa, and Sabon Kawo.

She emphasized that IMWON will continue to distribute hundreds of bags of rice to thousands of residents in Kaduna.

The President noted that the rice was donated by a wealthy individual to support the state’s poor population.

Mariya added that this humanitarian effort would significantly alleviate the hardship faced by some residents.

She called on wealthy individuals across the state and country to remember and support the poor.

According to her, the government alone cannot address the nation’s economic challenges.

“We are targeting over 20,000 residents in Kaduna and other parts of the North to reduce the hardship faced by widows with many children,”

She also said. “Many widows live in critical conditions, and there is a need for wealthy individuals and other humanitarian organizations to support them amid the high cost of living and insecurity challenges in the region.”

She expressed her gratitude to the donor for the generous contribution aimed at assisting poor widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities in the North.

A widow from the Abakwa community, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her gratitude during the donation.

She mentioned that it had been a long time since she had eaten properly and had been fasting daily due to the lack of food.

She urged the Nigerian government to always remember the widows and orphans in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

She also appealed to religious leaders, traditional titleholders, and top Nigerian politicians to assist the poor in any situation they find themselves.

Accordingly, she prayed for IMWON, asking God to continue supporting the organization, and offered special prayers and fasting for the wealthy individual who helped thousands of poor widows and orphans in the state.

IMWON Boss also encouraged all recipients to keep praying for those who remember them.
