Harry, Meghan to set up ‘own awards’ rivalling the Queen’s honours list

Must read

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly launching their own ‘honours list’ to reward individuals, companies and charities.

The awards, planned from their home in the US, are set to rival the Queen’s honours list of knighthoods, CBEs, OBEs and MBES.

Court documents seen by The Sun state Meghan and Harry’s awards will focus on those who the couple feel champion and promote causes important to them.

The documents state those awarded will include: ‘Charitable service, education, science, literature, racial justice, gender equity, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, health and mental health.’

The awards will be run by the couple’s Archewell Foundation, but it is not known if they will be handed out twice a year like the Queen’s honours.

It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently travelling across the UK by royal train to thank communities, outstanding individuals and key workers for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

Prince William and Kate Middleton embarked on their three-day trip yesterday to ‘shine a spotlight’ on ‘incredible work’ and ‘share their gratitude’ with inspiring members of the public.

The royals plan to meet care home staff, teachers, schoolchildren and volunteers to learn about the challenges they faced and listen to their inspiring stories. Their 1,250 mile-journey will include stops in England, Scotland and Wales and will end on Tuesday.
