Heavy Security as Osun PDP Conducts Guber Primary

Heavy security was observed at the Osogbo City Stadium, the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election on Tuesday.

The Osun State chapter of the PDP had slated Tuesday, March 8, 2022 for its gubernatorial primary election to elect a flagbearer for the Saturday, July 16, 2022, election.

At the stadium were personnel of the Osun Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Security (DSS), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Amotekun corps.

Also, party members thronging the venue of the exercise were made to identify themselves at the entrance to the stadium.

Apart from screening at the main entrance, there was another screening at the gate leading to the main bowl.

As part of security measures, a part of the Obafemi Awolowo Way was blocked from traffic.

The six aspirants for today’s primary election were initially six; Senator Ademola Adeleke, Prince Dotun Babayemi, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, Sanya Omirin, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi and Dele Adeleke but four withdrew from the contest on Monday, March 7, 2022, leaving the field open to only Ademola Adeleke and Dotun Babayemi.

As of the time of filing this report, none of the officials who would conduct the primary had arrived at the venue.
