Hon.Mitema Obordor Empowers 156 Youths

Hon.Mitema Obordo, lawmaker representing Ogbia Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in keeping with his promise to fulfill his electioneering campaign to better the lot of his constituents has organised an Agro/Entrepreneurship Skills acquisition trainings for 156 youths.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the programme on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the conference Hall of Udeme Hotels in Opolo, Yenagoa, the speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, RT..Hon. Abraham.Ngober, member representing Brass Constituency 3 commended Hon.Mitema Obordor for the initiative, adding that the training will equip youths with necessary skills to become self reliant and create jobs.

He encouraged the participants to take the two days training seriously so as to maximize the benefits of the programme.

He noted that, with the Agro/ Entrepreneurship training, it will help them to live above the current economic challenges facing the nation.

He noted that, the empowerment training will also divert the teeming youths from engaging in cult related activities and other social vices in the society.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Bayelsa State, Hon David Alagoa advised the trainees that the programme is a veritable to redefine the future of Ogbia youths.

“This programme defines the future of Ogbia youths. You have lost and sold your future if you sell your starter pack. Take this opportunity as a life time empowerment says the Agric Commissioner.

In his welcome address, Hon.Mitema Obordor, member representing Ogbia constituency 3 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, the initiator of the training programme, appreciated the participants for honouring his invitation to attend the programme.

He said the training was part of series he started in fulfilment of his campaign promises during the last House of Assembly elections .

“Some electoral promises which I made amongst others is capacity building and empowerment of youths, where I have ploughed back the limited resources at my disposal as a legislator to train Ogbia youths in various skills acquisition programme depending on available
opportunities and resources,”.

According to the lawmaker he started the empowerment programme in 2015 when he was first elected into the House of Assembly, stressing that the Skills Acquisition was born out of his dedication and commitment deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituents.

” For the records, this empowerment scheme is born out of dedication and
commitment to the very reasons why I decided to seek for your mandate in
governance.

” I have been organizing programmes of similar nature aimed at
positively touching the lives of our youths for sustainable development. The
present scheme is aimed at building capacity among youths in agro skills and
entrepreneurship, with a view to providing empowerment in the form of miniature,”.

Hon.Mitema Obordor who is contesting Ogbia Federal Constituency in the House of representatives Election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, called on all participants to support the Prosperity Administration led by Senator Douye Diri to move Bayelsa State to the next level of development.

“Let me also reiterate here, that this programme is not done in isolation but as part of my little contribution to complement what the prosperity government of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri is doing at the State level on agricultural skills acquisition and development in Bayelsa State,”.

The training include, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, fish farming, rice farming, poultry and cassava farming.

The participants were also taken to a standard poultry farm for practical field experience.

One of the participants, Miss Florence Agala, told daily watch news Online that she had gained a lot by attending the programme, noting that it has spurred her to be self reliant.

“I had wanted to grab slight knowledge on fish farming but many other things were taught and I am so excited overall,” she said.

The high point of the training was the presentation of cash to the participants by Hon.Mitema Obordor and he appealed to the PDP delegates to vote for him at the May 27, 2022 party primaries to enable him fly the PDP flag at 2023 Ogbia Federal House of Representatives Election.
