House of Representatives Advocates Global Cooperation in Anti-Corruption Efforts

The House of Representatives has urged international collaboration in the fight against corruption in Nigeria, as declared by the Chairman of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Kayode Akiolu. During the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, Akiolu affirmed the 10th Assembly’s commitment to enhancing transparency and accountability in the anti-corruption crusade through collaborative efforts and legislative reforms.

Akiolu assured civil society organizations and international agencies of the committee’s active engagement in monitoring and evaluating all initiatives aimed at eradicating corruption in Nigeria. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, capacity building, and legislative reforms, he outlined plans for a collaborative meeting to gather citizens’ feedback through organized actions by civil society organizations (CSOs) and international bodies.

The committee’s agenda includes initiating one-on-one visits to international and national organizations, establishing connections, and exploring areas of cooperation. Akiolu announced plans for a committee retreat to provide members with a comprehensive understanding of anti-corruption policies, practices, and challenges. The committee also aims to conduct site visits to anti-corruption agencies to monitor and evaluate their efforts in combating corruption effectively.

Highlighting the significance of public engagement, Akiolu revealed plans for regional citizens’ town hall meetings, fostering open discussions and inclusivity. The committee aims to strengthen anti-corruption measures by prioritizing citizen-driven approaches and creating a representative framework for combating corruption in Nigeria.

Additionally, the committee plans to initiate international exchange programs and conferences to facilitate knowledge sharing and expose members to global best practices in the fight against corruption.”
