“How I sold all my cars to save my wife from cancer” Actor Lekan Olatunji opens up on wife’s painful death

Nollywood actor, Lekan Olatunji, has shared the heart-wrenching story of his wife’s painful battle with breast cancer. In an interview with Biola Bayo on her show, Talk to B, he revealed the challenges they faced in trying to save her life.

Lekan recounted that his wife’s cancer had progressed to her spinal cord, rendering her unable to walk. Despite selling two cars for N4 million and spending millions on surgeries, they couldn’t overcome the devastating disease.

The couple discovered the cancer during a check-up in Lagos, where foreign specialists operated the machines. The cancer had already reached an advanced stage, surprising doctors who expected her body to show signs of decay.

In desperation, Lekan and his family were faced with the daunting task of raising N12.5 million for two urgent surgeries. The financial burden led him to sell two cars, raising N4 million. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, they couldn’t secure a visa in time to fly her to America for further treatment.

Lekan emotionally described the heartbreaking moment when the doctors revealed the cost of the surgeries, and the family rallied to support. The first surgery, which aimed to correct the spinal cord, cost N5.8 million. In total, they spent about N7.8 million during the two weeks she spent in Lagos.

Despite their struggles, the family’s plan to take her to America couldn’t materialize, and Lekan’s wife eventually succumbed to the illness. This tragic loss follows a challenging year for the actor, who survived a near-fatal accident.

Nollywood stars, including Tawa Ajisefinni, Mosun Filani, Folorunsho Adeola, Lola Magret, Toyin Tomato, and Bimpe Akintunde, have offered their condolences and support during this difficult time.
