Humanitarian Minister Bernard Doro Rallies Support for Tinubu in Plateau State

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Dr Bernard Doro, has rallied political stakeholders in Plateau State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing recent federal policies as necessary steps toward economic recovery. Dr Doro made the call on Tuesday during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders from the Northern Senatorial District of Plateau State. He said President Tinubu had taken tough but critical decisions that were repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The minister expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing him and for what he described as unwavering support for the administration. He pledged to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him and deliver on his mandate.“ Let us join hands and walk together. We are capable of achieving results if we come together. We can deliver for the APC, and we can deliver for Mr President in 2027,” Doro said.

He said the Renewed Hope Agenda was anchored on inclusive governance, strong institutions, and progressive leadership, adding that the administration was focused on improving the living conditions of Nigerians.“ President Tinubu is committed to ensuring that Nigerians feel the benefits of democracy and the Renewed Hope agenda,” the minister stated. Dr Doro also thanked the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for his role in ensuring that the ministerial appointment came from Plateau State’s Northern Zone.

Highlighting the scale of the task before his ministry, the minister cited national poverty statistics, noting that Nigeria’s population is estimated at about 230 million people, with roughly 63 per cent classified as multidimensionally poor. He added that about 30 per cent of Nigerians fall into the category of extreme poverty.“ I am sharing these figures to show the enormity of the responsibility placed on us by Mr President. We are expected to respond to emergencies, address crises, and provide humanitarian support that will significantly reduce these numbers,” he said. Doro disclosed that within his first eight weeks in office, the ministry had reviewed its operations and developed clear policies aimed at improving service delivery. He said the goal was to build a country where no citizen is left behind.“ I am here to assure you that, as your son, I will work to make you proud by delivering on the task before me,” he added.

In a related development, the minister visited the APC State Secretariat in Jos, where he met with members of the party’s executive council. He explained that his visit had been delayed due to official engagements following his swearing-in. Dr Doro described himself as a grassroots politician who has been actively involved in politics since 1999, despite spending over two decades abroad. He said he had consistently returned home to participate in political activities and support candidates across Plateau State. The APC State Chairman, Hon Rufus Bature, welcomed the minister’s visit, saying it would strengthen party unity and boost morale among party officials. He commended the minister and prayed for a successful tenure, urging him to continue supporting the party.
