By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

Miss Igala for the year 2020, Queen Favour Makolo said on Wednesday in Lokoja that feasibility studies has been concluded for the establishment of Sanitary Pad Bank in Kogi state for free disbursement to the down trodden girl child in rural communities.

Queen Makolo who disclosed this to ‘Daybreak’ in Lokoja said “the PAD BANK project is an initiative tailored at establishing Sanitary Banks in rural communities across the state where every girl child can have access to free pads on a monthly basis.”

“In Nigeria, the high cost of sanitary pads have made the commodity inaccessible for poor girls. In some situations, girls face sexual abuse in their quest for money to buy sanitary pads.”

Queen Makolo stressed that the Pad Bank project is also aimed at curbing this ugly trend and reinforcement of the confidence of girls, especially at the community level, to be proud of their menstrual cycle.

A 20-year, Favour Makolo who hails from Itama-Egume in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, is a student of History and International Studies of the prestigious Federal University Lokoja,(FUL).

She stated that every girl child in the society has the right to achieve their possible best standard of health, adding that due to the lack of knowledge on how to go about their personal hygiene, most of the female child have been hospitalized or died for one illness or the other.

The idea according to her was borne out of the desire to help solve one of the greatest challenges of the girl-child who lack money to buy sanitary pads adding that the Pad Bank project when established every girl child in rural communities can have access to free sanitary pads on a monthly basis.

In extension to her humanitarian services to the girl child, Miss Favour became a Peer Educator and active Volunteer at Heal for Africa Initiative, she also became a convener of ‘AID FOR HER INITIATIVE,’ which she said is aimed at educating and distributing good menstrual product to women and girls in rural communities.

She is also the convener ‘WALK AGAINST DRUG ABUSE’ with the focus of sensitizing young people on the harmful effect of the abuse of substance/drugs. She was recently nominated as one of the Global Peace Humanity Ambassador Nigeria and the Chairperson of Global Peace Ambassador in Nigeria.
