IGP Orders Probe into Killing of 14-Year-Old WASSCE Candidate in Oyo

ABUJA — Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the death of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidate, who was reportedly shot during a clash involving officers of the Oyo State Police Command and officials of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA).

In a statement issued by the Force Headquarters on Monday, the IGP described the incident as “tragic and deeply regrettable,” and confirmed that the police officer allegedly involved in the shooting has been arrested and is currently in custody.

“The investigation will be thorough and transparent, and its outcome will be made public to ensure that justice is served,” the statement assured, as the police extended heartfelt condolences to Kehinde’s family.

The IGP also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding, even in the face of provocation or injustice.

The killing of the young student has sparked public outrage and renewed scrutiny over the conduct of law enforcement officers, particularly in situations involving minors and unarmed civilians.
