IGP squad arrests PDP chieftains as late accreditation, large turnouts overshadow A’Ibom re-run

Two chieftains of the People Democratic Party,PDP, were on Saturday arrested by a Special IGP squad in Ini Local Council during Saturday’s rerun election in Akwa Ibom

They include the incumbent House of Assembly member for Ini state constituency, Mr Lawrence Udoide and Transition Chairman, Mr inibehe Umah.

They were arrested with their thugs, over thuggery, vote buying and diversion of election materials in 2 units of Ikono/Ini Federal Constitueny and detained at state police headquarters in Uyo

Meanwhile, even though there was a large turnout, accreditation of voters started very late in all polling units in Saturday’s rerun elections for the National and State Assembly in Akwa Ibom.

There were however reports of heavy shooting by security agencies in some parts of Ediene Ikono where hoodlums attempted to disrupt the election.

In unit 2 (Holy child primary school) Ikono, accreditation started 9:30 am while unit 14, ward 11 also in Ikono, accreditation is yet to start as at the time of filing this report.

Speaking with Journalists the presiding officer for unit 2,Mrs Mildness David attributed the late accreditation to lack of vehicles to convey electoral materials.

She said, “there was no vehicles to convey the the election materials to this place and that was our challenge”

In unit 14, voters were still waiting patiently for election materials.

Meanwhile INEC have suspended elections in the two pooling units in Ini Local Council where hoodlums carted away election materials
