Independence: Collective Action is the Solution to Security Challenges—Gov. Aliyu

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State emphasized that collective action is the key to addressing the security challenges, including banditry, facing Sokoto and Nigeria. In his Independence Day message to the people of Sokoto State, the governor urged citizens to complement the efforts of both federal and state governments in safeguarding lives and property.

Abubakar Bawa, a spokesperson for the governor, shared that Aliyu highlighted the substantial investments made by the current administration in ensuring the state’s security since taking office. “When we came on board, the monthly allowances for security operatives deployed to flashpoints had been halted. We have restored those allowances and even increased them,” the governor said.

Aliyu also noted that his administration has procured 100 vehicles, distributing them to security agencies across the state to counter the activities of bandits. Additionally, a Community Guard Corps has been established to support conventional security forces in protecting rural communities.

“These initiatives are part of our efforts to fulfill our pledge to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state,” Aliyu stated. He expressed confidence that with these measures, both federal and state governments would soon overcome the country’s security challenges.

Governor Aliyu called on all Nigerians to work together with governments at all levels to solve the current security issues and other obstacles hindering the nation’s progress. He also congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 64th Independence anniversary, reminding them of the sacrifices made by the nation’s founding fathers.

The governor paid tribute to Nigeria’s fallen heroes for their efforts in preserving the country’s unity, urging citizens to protect and uphold Nigeria’s indivisibility. He concluded by wishing the nation a happy Independence celebration.
