Infrastructural Development Drives N43 Billion Increase in Delta’s 2025 Budget

The Delta State House of Assembly has approved a N43 billion increase to the 2025 Appropriation Bill, raising the budget from N936.1 billion to N979.2 billion. This adjustment was driven by the State’s commitment to intensified infrastructural development, according to Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Speaking after the bill’s third reading and passage, Hon. Okowa-Daramola described the 2025 budget as a “Budget of Hope,” emphasizing its focus on physical infrastructural growth across the state.

The lawmaker, who represents Ika North East Constituency, highlighted that the capital expenditure allocation was increased to N630.461 billion from the initial N587.361 billion proposed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, marking a 7.34% rise. Recurrent expenditure was adjusted slightly, with an additional N50 million, bringing it to N348.767 billion.

Focus on Economic and Infrastructure Sectors

Hon. Okowa-Daramola stated that the amendments primarily targeted the economic sector, focusing on rural, urban, and riverine road infrastructure. She emphasized that enhanced connectivity would boost productivity and socio-economic growth across the state.

“We increased capital expenditure by N43.1 billion and recurrent expenditure by N50 million. Infrastructure is a priority for Governor Oborevwori’s administration, and we recognized the need to support this initiative. These amendments focus on rural and urban roads, as well as riverine connectivity, which are essential for economic development,” she said.

Optimism for Better Performance

The lawmaker expressed optimism about the state government’s ability to outperform its achievements in 2024, noting that the 2025 budget reflects a commitment to improving the lives of Deltans.

“For us, this is a Budget of Hope. We are confident the state government will surpass its 2024 performance. Governor Oborevwori is dedicated to the welfare of Deltans, and we believe there’s MORE in store for Ika North East and the entire state,” Hon. Okowa-Daramola stated.

She urged citizens to look forward to significant infrastructural progress under the current administration, reaffirming the Assembly’s support for the governor’s developmental agenda.
