Insecurity: EODU Charges Security Agents To Curb Criminality With Joint Proactive Strategy

The national President of Egume Ome Descendants Union, (EODU) Alhaji Muhammed Lawal Ibrahim on Thursday in Egume charged Vigilante group and other security Agents to close ranks and be Proactive curbing Criminality in Egume community.

Alhaji Ibrahim gave the charge at a – three day sensitisation of security and Stakeholders’ meeting which was organised by the national EXCO of Egume Ome Descendants Union (EODU) held at Ome Motel – Egume, in Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

Ibrahim pointed out that “no community will strive in its socio economic development where Criminality prevails especially where youths restiveness could not be controlled. Once youths are meaningfully engaged, crime will be reduced.”

On the factors militating against synergy of the community, the President called for immediate stoppage of unwarranted bail of criminals, sentiment, unholy compromise, unwillingness to serve, and arrogance of gagos.

In order to reform, restructure and refocus the Vigilante and other security agents in the community, it was resolved that a – nine man committee be set up with two gagos as observers.

This committee according to the national President is saddled with the responsibility of the modalities for the recruitment of vigilante members for all the Gago units in the community and to report back to the national body within two weeks.

Alhaji Ibrahim expressed gratitude to all participants in the three days programme and challenged the indicted Gagos to make amends and be dutiful.

In his contribution, one of the guest Lecturers at the programme, Professors Sunday Ejima stressed the need for the youth to be meaningfully engaged in artisans in order to be self sustenance in the society.

He pointed out that no matter the level of education youth may attain in the present economic dwindling, combining education with handiwork will enable such person strive above his contemporaries and even be an employer of labour.

The programme was rounded up with the Egume community’s  final football league match between Achem FC and Sabola FC, with the the national president of EODU as the special guest of honour. 
He donated the sum of twenty thousand naira, (#20’000) to the winner of the tournament while the runner up, Achem FC went home with a consolation sum of ten thousand naira respectively.
