Insecurity: Militants Raid Police Station, Fatally Shoot Officer in Zamfara

A divisional police station located in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara state was targeted by gunmen suspected to be militants on Tuesday morning, resulting in the tragic killing of a police officer during the operation.

Reliable information indicates that the militants forcefully entered the station and initiated a barrage of gunfire, causing panic among the police personnel on duty.

Upon realizing the severity of the attack, the police officers sought refuge within the roof of the station in a bid to safeguard their lives.

An anonymous police officer, fearing for his safety, revealed that a misstep by one of the officers led to a fall on the ground, prompting the assailants to flee under the assumption that the police were pursuing them.

“Regrettably, the State police command lost Inspector Nura Birnin Tsaba, who was fatally shot inside a police patrol van,” the officer disclosed.

Additionally, it was confirmed that the assailants returned to the scene to retrieve the rifle that had belonged to the late Inspector Nura Birnin Tsaba.

Recalling a similar incident a few months earlier, militants attacked police officers on patrol near the same police station, resulting in casualties and the theft of their firearms.

In a separate incident, another group of bandits reportedly raided Boko village in the Zurmi Local Government Area of the state. Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits killed one local resident and kidnapped six women during the operation.

As of the time of this report, the police have not provided a response to the situation due to difficulties in contacting their representatives.
