IUIU Alumni Association Honored for Transformative Educational Support

The Sokoto State Chapter of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Alumni Association has celebrated Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his unwavering commitment to education during his eighth (8) years exemplary leadership as Governor of Sokoto State.

Statement by Information Officer Abdullahi Ghani said 241 benefited from his scholarship programs that graduated first degree including 12 that earned PhDs.

The event, which took place in Sokoto, highlighted Senator Wamakko’s transformative impact on education through his generous scholarship initiatives.

The co-chairmen of the association, representing the beneficiaries, expressed profound gratitude for his visionary leadership and selfless investment in their academic pursuits, which they described as a catalyst for their success.

Out of the 250 students sponsored by Senator Wamakko to study at the Islamic University in Uganda, 241 have successfully completed their programs. Among them, 12 have earned PhDs, while 61 others are currently pursuing doctoral studies in various institutions within and outside Nigeria.

The beneficiaries praised Senator Wamakko for his exemplary wisdom and commitment to empowering future generations, noting that his support has not only transformed their academic lives but also inspired them to achieve greater heights.

The Association also appealed to the Sokoto State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, to redeploy some of their members currently teaching in primary schools to tertiary institutions within the state.

The association believe that their expertise would be better utilized in higher education, contributing more significantly to the state’s development.

The event also recognized the contributions of Alhaji Abdulkadir Jelani Kalgo and Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir for their unwavering support and mentorship during the students’ studies in Uganda.

The ceremony highlighted prayers for Senator Wamakko’s continued success and for the remaining beneficiaries to complete their PhD programs, enabling them to make valuable contributions to society.

Senator Wamakko’s educational initiatives continue to leave an indelible mark on Sokoto State, fostering academic excellence and empowering future leaders.
