Renowned singer and APC ambassador Alhaji Jamilu Jadda Garko has urged the United States and the European Union to support Nigeria in combating electoral malpractices for the advancement of democracy.
Garko emphasized that allowing governors to control local elections undermines democracy, likening it to “killing a snake without cutting off its head.”
He commended President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for restoring local governments’ financial autonomy, a move he believes will safeguard democracy and bring local authorities closer to the electorate.
Garko stated, “President Tinubu has done what he should be praised for, and in the near future, Nigeria will become an exemplary nation.”
He added, “Years of struggle have gone into this process. Because of nationalism and democracy, he went to court to recover this right. He has respected democracy and the passion of the common people.” Garko called on the international community to take action against electoral manipulators.
“There is a need for the European Union and the United States to ban entry visas for any governor or head of a state election commission who conducts rigged elections,” Jadda Garko stressed.
Citing Rivers State as an example, the APC singer highlighted the devastating consequences of compromised elections, reiterating that they will not ignore governors’ attempts to undermine the country and democracy. “We must strive to protect it.”
