On September 1, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of Samuel Adeniyi, who stands accused of brutally killing his girlfriend by striking her in the head with a sledgehammer in an undisclosed location in Lagos.
Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, revealed this grim incident during a press briefing held at the Police Officers Mess in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday.
According to Owohunwa, the motive behind the heinous act was Adeniyi’s overwhelming jealousy, as he feared his girlfriend might choose to end their relationship and be with someone else.
The CP, while presenting various suspects in Lagos, shared additional successes achieved since the launch of “Operation Flush” a month ago. This operation has resulted in the police raiding criminal hideouts, apprehending individuals involved in cult activities, and detaining armed robbers operating in traffic, among others.
Owohunwa reported, “Over the past two weeks, we recovered 18 firearms, including two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated firearm, and one exceptionally unique weapon never before seen in the hands of criminals in the country. Additionally, two locally crafted toy guns used in robbery were seized. We also retrieved 15 cartridges, four expended cartridges, six matches, 34 bags of suspected Indian hemp, and two bags containing counterfeit US dollars and Pounds Sterling notes.”
Furthermore, Owohunwa mentioned the discovery of six containers of counterfeit Total engine oil, exposing a syndicate involved in adulterating engine oil within Lagos. The police also made arrests in connection with the murder of a police officer in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
