The national president of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Comrade Chris Isiguzo on Thursday in Lokoja advised Journalists to build the nation by being objective in their reportage in the forth coming general election and avoid igniting crises.
The President made this a remarks at a Symposium organised by the Kogi state council of NUJ with the theme ‘ a peep into Governor Yahaya Bello’s Seven years in office and implications for future administrations’ held at Edgedrive hotels, Lokoja.
He pointed out that the development of any nation depends on a joint efforts and the way journalists portraits their country
warning that journalists must not be an agent of writers who fuel crises or violence in the society.
While urging Journalists to discharge their responsibilities in the forthcoming general election without fear or favour, charged them to write to enthrone peace and good governance.
Comrade Isibuzo who enjoined Nigerians to come out in their numbers to make their choices in the forthcoming general election said the choice they make will substantially define the Country in future.
The President urged Journalists to write what will pull people out of poverty, squalor, enthrone peace and good governance, pointing out that as Journalists they have only one country they can call their own.
He tasked Media professionals in the country not to charge the already charged polity with their reports, insisting on only report that will engender peace building.
Comrd. Chris Isiguzo said “if Democracy is about making impact on the lives of the people, I asserts that Gov. Yahaya Bello has done well.”
The National NUJ President described the Reference Hospital Okene, a world class health Infrastructure in the country as a signature of the Gov. Bello’s administration that would remain a positive reference several years after.
While pointing out that unlike many Governor’s in the country who will instead of bringing such edifice as the Reference Hospital and others spread across Kogi State, will prefer to travel abroad and build such facility’s in other countries, described the administration of Gov Bello as one that has done well.
While pointing out that even the blind knows that the
Reference Hospital remains a positive reference point, described the Ganaja flyover bridge and several other people oriented projects, as an indication that there is a government working for the people in Kogi State.
The President called on the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to provide an improved working environment by giving a face lift to the Kogi state NUJ press Centre Lokoja.
He also appealed to the Governor to fulfill his promise of a ‘bus’ to the Kogi state council of NUJ to enhance their performance on the job.
