Jubilation as Senator Lalong Flags Off Rural Solar Electrification in Plateau South District

Constituents of Plateau South Senatorial District are celebrating as Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing the district in the National Assembly, has launched a rural solar electrification project for remote villages in the zone.

In the first phase of the initiative, over 80 solar street lights have been installed across four villages in four local government areas: Demshin in Shendam LGA, Gangnum in Langtang South LGA, Turniang in QuanPan LGA, and Laling in Mikang LGA.

During a visit to the Senatorial headquarters in Shendam, Senator Lalong also traveled to Laling, one of the villages in Mikang LGA where the solar lights were installed.

He was warmly welcomed by a jubilant crowd, including the Transition Committee Chairman of Mikang LGA, Hon. Daniel Kunmi. Kunmi praised Senator Lalong as a dedicated politician with a passion for development, regardless of political or religious differences.

Lalong described this project as the first phase of a broader rural solar electrification program aimed at providing electricity to remote villages that may not be quickly connected to the national grid. He assured that the entire Senatorial District would eventually benefit from the project, which will complement ongoing efforts to improve the national grid.

Dan Kunmi, the Mikang LGA Transition Committee Chairman, noted that although he and Senator Lalong belong to different political parties, the rural solar electrification project is a vital aspect of governance that benefits all, irrespective of political affiliations. He expressed his pleasure in welcoming the legislator.

The village head of Laling also expressed gratitude for the solar lights and commended Senator Lalong for his consistent support and engagement with the community.

Senator Lalong also visited Long Tehl of Mikang LGA, HRH Puntel Donald, to offer condolences over the recent death of one of his traditional rulers. He encouraged the family and the traditional ruler to continue serving with zeal, patriotism, and integrity, acknowledging that the hour of death is unknown.

Long Tehl HRH Puntel Donald appreciated the Senator’s visit and commended him for his support and consideration in selecting Laling for the initial phase of the electrification project.

In a similar gesture, Senator Lalong extended his condolences to the Long Gamai of Gamailand, HRH Miskoom Martin Shaldas III, over the recent death of his son, Heskat Shaldas. Lalong urged the Royal Father to find solace in accepting God’s will and described the deceased as a promising individual who made significant contributions to the Chiefdom, Shendam LGA, and Plateau State.
