Tinubu Addresses Economic Reforms Amid Hardship
In his address to the nation following the 2024 Democracy Day celebrations, President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the ongoing national reforms are designed to strengthen the economy, despite the current hardships. He emphasized that these measures are essential for creating a more resilient economic foundation for future growth.
Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties faced by the populace and emphasized his commitment to listening to the people and addressing their concerns.
“There is no doubt that the reforms have caused hardship, yet they are necessary to fix the economy in the long run. This will ensure that everyone has access to economic opportunities, fair pay, and proper compensation for their labor,” he stated.
He highlighted the need to move away from the country’s over-reliance on oil revenues and stressed the importance of achieving economic democracy alongside political democracy.
“Our economy has been unbalanced due to its heavy dependence on oil revenues. As we celebrate our political democracy, let us also commit to realizing our economic democracy. I understand the economic challenges we face, and as we continue these reforms, I will always listen to the people and never turn my back on you,” President Tinubu assured.
