JUST-IN: Ex-Minister Ogbonnaya Onu Dies At 72

Former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has died at the age of 72. He passed away after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.

Onu, who was the first civilian governor of Abia State, had recently sought the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 general elections. He also served as minister under the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The specific cause of his death has not yet been confirmed. Born on December 1, 1951, Dr. Onu was known for his long tenure as minister of Science and Technology, a position he resigned from in November 2022 to pursue his presidential bid.
