Lagos State University (LASU) has been ranked the most sought-after university in Nigeria, according to newly released data from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The figures, unveiled on Tuesday during the ongoing 2024 JAMB Policy Meeting in Abuja, show that LASU has surpassed the long-standing leader, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), in the number of applicants.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) now holds the second position with 58,645 applicants, while UNILORIN slips to third place with 56,758 applicants.
UNILORIN had previously maintained its top spot among UTME candidates, largely credited to its reputation for an uninterrupted academic calendar and minimal involvement in industrial actions—making it a consistent favourite for students seeking a stable academic environment.
The latest shift highlights LASU’s growing popularity and reputation among prospective undergraduates nationwide.
