JUST IN: Retired Service Chiefs to Receive Bulletproof SUVs, $20,000 Medical Allowance [DETAILS]

Retired service chiefs are set to receive a package that includes bulletproof sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and a $20,000 annual medical allowance, according to new details emerging from defence circles.

The development comes amid a wave of voluntary and mandatory retirements among senior military officers—particularly those who were contemporaries of the recently replaced service chiefs.

By long-standing military tradition, senior officers are not permitted to serve under their juniors, meaning that dozens of generals from Courses 39 to 41 of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are expected to proceed on retirement.

Reliable sources revealed that over 60 generals across the Army, Navy, and Air Force are slated to leave active service as part of the leadership transition.

Meanwhile, the Senate joint committees on Defence, Army, and Navy are expected to commence the screening of the newly appointed service chiefs later this week.

The retirement benefits, seen as part of efforts to honour past military leaders, have drawn attention for their scale amid ongoing discussions about welfare and accountability within Nigeria’s armed forces.
