JUST IN: Tinubu Swears in Olatunji Disu as Substantive IGP

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.

Disu took the oath of office at 2:53 p.m. after his citation was read by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, senior government officials and other dignitaries.

His confirmation followed a unanimous endorsement by the Nigeria Police Council on Monday. Disu was appointed acting IGP last week after the resignation of former police chief Kayode Egbetokun on February 23, 2026.

At the Council meeting, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other members commended Disu’s record, citing his service in Lagos and Rivers states. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah seconded the motion endorsing his appointment.

Born on April 13, 1966, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Before his elevation, he served as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Special Protection Unit and Force CID Annex, Lagos.

President Tinubu charged the new IGP to strengthen discipline, inter-agency collaboration and public confidence in the Force. Disu pledged zero tolerance for corruption, impunity and human rights abuses.
