The Senate is currently screening Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for her confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). This important process of Justice Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation follows President Bola Tinubu’s official nomination, which was sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Justice Kekere-Ekun has been serving in an acting capacity as the CJN since August, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
In a letter dated September 24, 2024, President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process. “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN,” Tinubu wrote. “I hope this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate.”
As the Senate continues its screening, Justice Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria remains a significant focus for the judiciary and the nation.
