Kaduna approves N300m for Malaria commodities procurement

The approval of N300 million as counterpart funding for Malaria commodities procurement by kaduna state government has been commended by Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunizations and Nutrition (ACOMIN).
The  State program Officer of ACOMIN, Mr. Ogidi Nicodemus who gave the commendation in an interview at state level focused media meeting in kaduna also said that successful engagement of community members in malaria control has yielded alot of positive results including recognition of communities in health intervention especially for malaria programmes.

Other positive results of the project, according to Mr. Ogidi  is the monitoring of commodities through facility health committee comprising community members, construction of new health clinics in Zaria, Chikun local governments and reconstruction of toilet room at primary health care (PHC), Yelwa ward in Romi, kaduna state, respectively.
Also listed as achievements among other things includes the procurement of furniture, engagement of security personnel, allocation of 3 plots of land, electrification, rehabilitation of borehole at PHCs in different wards in five focal local government areas of kaduna state.

Earlier in his presentation, the program Officer also said  ACOMIN is the national network of civil society organizations (CSOs) working on the prevention, treatment and mitigation of the impact of malaria, and the promotion of immunization and better nutrition in Nigeria.

He also stated that the CSOs under the grant are focused on Accountability and Advocacy and the initiative is focused on accountability for commodity utilization, value for money, budgetary appropriations and human resource development, adding that “ACOMIN is implementing the Accountability and Advocacy Component of the  Global Fund Supported Malaria Project in 13 States of the federation including Kaduna. 
The state chairman, Diji Obadiah Haruna earlier said that their major responsibility is purely accountability and advocacy on malaria toward supports for increased in funding for quality service delivery and creating awareness to enable participations.

Earlier, Kaduna state program manager, malaria elimination program, state ministry of health, Yusuf Mohammed announced that kaduna state has approved N300 million as counterpart funds for procurement of commodities for malaria to support malaria control supports partners working in the state. The councillor representing Yelwa ward in Chikun local government area Hon. Rahab Christopher also complained that she has written several letters to relevant authorities over the poor condition of PHC in her ward, adding that the facility was ravaged by flood during raining season and made it unmotorable and  inaccessible for patients, but yet to received any respond to relocate or rebuilt the facility. 
Other malaria control partners at the meeting spokes extensively on the existing free malaria treatment in all the 23 LG supported by global funds project.

ACOMIN is a non-political, non-sectarian and non-profit organization working in collaboration with the government, partners and stakeholders both at the national and state level.
