The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has sealed four hotels in Kafanchan, Jama’ah Local Government Area, due to unpaid taxes amounting to N16.8 million. The establishments affected include Kyus Hotel, Sunshine Lodge, Bayan Hotel, and Cloud-9 Lounge.
Jerry Adams, the Chairman of KADIRS, stated that the operation was conducted under the authority of Section 104 (1) and (4) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 and Section 37 (3) and (4) of the Kaduna State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law, 2020. A court order was obtained to close and take control of the properties until the outstanding taxes are fully paid.
Adams emphasized that KADIRS had provided ample opportunity for the hotels to settle their debts before enforcing the closure. He expressed concern over the non-compliance of certain taxpayers and highlighted the critical role of tax revenue in supporting the state’s infrastructure development. While the service will pursue major taxpayers, Adams assured that the economic difficulties faced by the less privileged would be considered in their enforcement actions.
