Kaduna State Government given 21 day demolition notice to Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna state council.

KASUPDA, in the notice of demolition pasted at the entrance of the union stated that the NUJ has no building permit for the office/shopping complex and also refused to comply with its directives to stop parking of cars in front of the Union premises.

The demolition notice dated 23th September 2021 was
signed by Ismail Umaru Dikko on behalf of the Director Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Authority (KASUPDA).

The authority threatened that failure to comply with the notice to vacate would leave it with no “option than to demolish the illegal structures at the expense of the union in line with the provisions of sections 60 (2) and 62 of the above mentioned law.

KASUPDA also stated that it earlier had a meeting with the union leadership and advised them to stop parking of vehicles in front of the union as well as the lack of building permit of the office and shopping complex.

The authority stated that it also had meeting with the union on the illegal development of shopping complex within the union premises and agreed on what to be done, with timeline, but that the union failed to comply.

Accordingly, KASUPDA stated that it held meeting with Kaduna state market development Association, the developer of the complex, and nothing was done.

According to the notice, the properties also has no digital certificate of occupancy, lacks adequate packing space hence street parking.

The authority therefore gave the union 21 days from the date of recieving the notice to vacate the entire complex and remove all valuables.

But the union secretary comrade John Femi Adi assured that, based on advised, the agent of the shopping complex is currently giving every necessary attention to comply with the KASUPDA’ s directive to avoid the demolition.
