The Network of Peace Journalists (NPJ), alongside the Conflict Mitigation and Management Regional Council (CMMRC) and Community Peace Observers (CPO), has called for peaceful elections across all 23 local government areas in Kaduna State.
Ibrahima Yakubu, the team leader of the NPJ, emphasized the importance of unity among all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process. He stated, “Politicians should collaborate with civil society organizations to promote peace and unity. They should also encourage citizens to participate actively by voting for credible candidates.”
Youth Engagement and Community Involvement
Furthermore, the statement urged youths to reject violence, thuggery, and misconduct before, during, and after the elections. This commitment is essential for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
Additionally, the group called on religious leaders to engage in ongoing prayers for peaceful elections. They also highlighted the need to protect journalists during this critical period.
Caution Against Misinformation
Moreover, the stakeholders cautioned citizens against relying on unofficial election results circulating on social media. They urged the Electoral Commission to ensure the prompt delivery of voting materials to polling units.
Finally, the group called on citizens to act patriotically by rejecting vote-buying and preventing underage individuals from participating in campaigns and elections.
