Kaduna State Enlists 7,000 Vigilantes to Combat Banditry

By Daniel Edu

Kaduna State’s Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has officially initiated the training of 7,000 individuals to join the Kaduna Vigilance Service. This strategic move aims to enhance the collaborative efforts of various security agencies in addressing the pressing issues of kidnapping, armed robbery, and related crimes within the state.

The governor revealed that these recruits, currently undergoing intensive training at the Police College in Kaduna, have been selected from all 23 local government areas across the state. Their training will equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to support existing security forces and effectively curtail criminal activities within the region.

Governor Sani emphasized the critical need for this recruitment due to the shortfall of regular security personnel in the ongoing battle against security challenges plaguing the state. He explained that the Kaduna Vigilance Service would play a pivotal role in providing actionable intelligence and leveraging its familiarity with the local terrain to eliminate the hiding spots of bandits.

In his words, Governor Sani stated, “The Kaduna Vigilance Service is a complementary security force, providing vital support to our existing agencies. Their deep understanding of the local environment will leave no room for bandits to evade justice.”

He further elaborated on the significance of this initiative, saying, “Initiating this training program marks a significant stride in fulfilling our commitment to the people of Kaduna State. Our administration has consistently aimed to bolster the manpower and overall operational capabilities of the KADVS. Since its inception, KADVS has worked closely with security agencies to weaken criminal elements. However, the shortage of personnel has hindered our ability to effectively combat bandits and other criminal elements. To address this, our administration has taken the step to recruit 7,000 individuals into the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS).”

Governor Sani also highlighted the collaborative efforts involved in the recruitment and screening process, involving local government chairmen, traditional and religious leaders, grassroots stakeholders, and security agencies.

In conclusion, the governor stressed the importance of this endeavor, emphasizing its potential to benefit humanity as a whole by enhancing food security and income generation through innovative agricultural technologies. This holistic approach aims to uplift the economy and positively impact people’s lives.
