Kano PCC Working to Ensure Justice and Peace – Sarina

By Jabiru Hassan

The Kano State Public Complaints Commission (PCC) has reiterated its commitment to promoting peace and unity through reconciliation and public engagement for improved livelihoods.

State Commissioner, Hon. Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing representatives of deported migrants from Libya, Niger, and other countries who had lodged complaints with the commission.

Hon. Sarina assured the migrants that the commission would do its best to ensure justice and provide relief.

“We are working selflessly to promote peace and unity through public and organizational engagements. Our aim is to ensure mutual understanding and resolve conflicts to curb injustice,” he stated.

Sarina stressed that migration is governed by rules and regulations, advising migrants to always follow due process when traveling locally or abroad.

He further said:

“The commission is always ready to receive public complaints and address them amicably. We have recorded significant successes in the past, and I am optimistic that your case will also be resolved as we have officially received your complaints,” he reassured.

Speaking on behalf of the deported migrants, Sirajo Dauda Mohammed from Nassarawa Local Government Area narrated the group’s ordeal, explaining that they suffered mistreatment in Libya and Niger Republic before being repatriated and placed under the care of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kano.

“We were captured, tortured, and treated like animals, especially in the Niger Republic, before being flown to Kano. Here, we decided to lodge our complaints at the Public Complaints Commission, where we have so far been treated with dignity,” he said.

Malam Sirajo added that the deportees had been registered to benefit from IOM’s support program and issued ATM cards for cash assistance, but were surprised to receive only ₦10,000 each, contrary to the amount initially promised.

He appealed to the PCC, under Hon. Sarina’s leadership, to intervene and ensure that the full entitlements due to them were paid as stipulated by IOM.
