Kano SIECOM Chairman Sacked 72 Hours Before LG Elections by Court

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has removed Prof. Sani Lawan Malumfashi from his position as Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

Justice Simon Amobeda delivered the ruling on Tuesday in a case filed by Aminu Aliyu Tiga and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Amobeda ruled that Malumfashi was disqualified due to his status as a card-carrying member of a political party.

The ruling comes less than 72 hours before the local government elections, scheduled for October 26, 2024, across the 44 LGAs in the state.

Efforts to get Malumfashi’s comments on the court’s decision proved unsuccessful, as he refused to speak to reporters today.
