Kano state Chief of Staff sues EFCC, police, over alleged palliatives diversion

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Yusuf, of Kano State, Shehu Sagagi, has taken legal actions against the Economic Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC), APC Youth Merger Group, one Mujahid Zaitawa and the state police commissioner, CP Salman Dogo,.

The Chief of Staff (CoS), is seeking the protection of his fundamental rights as it concerns the alleged diversion of palliatives accusation against him.

Already, the State High Court, presided over by Justice Aisha Ya’u, has granted an order restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) their agents, police and other security outfits from arresting or prosecuting the Chief of Staff in the alleged palliative diversion.

In the restraining order granted by the court, part of it reads, “upon reading motion ex-parte together with the accompanying affidavit an order is granted restringing the 1st respondent (EFCC) and particularly 4th respondent (Police) either by themselves, agents or cronies, from arresting the complainant pending the determination of the motion on notice slated for hearing on the 3rd Day September 2024.”

The case was filed by D.Y. Gambo, counsel to the Chief of Staff, Sagagi, seeking the protection of his rights, according to the restraining order.

The CoS was speculated to have diverted palliatives in bags of rice given to the State by the Federal Government, but the state antigraft commission boss Barrister Muhyi Magaji, has cleared him of wrong doing insisting that the food items was meant for his Orphans Islamic School.

An APC Youth Group Chairman, Mujahid Zaitawa, has taken the case to EFCC seeking the Prosecution of the Chief of Staff in the allegations. End
