Justice Flora Azinge, the head of the Kano State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, has revealed an unsettling incident involving a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) trying to bribe her.
The judge, visibly perturbed, addressed the issue openly in court before the proceedings began on Tuesday in Kano. She expressed her concern about the unethical behavior exhibited by certain senior lawyers.
While she refrained from disclosing the identity of the implicated senior lawyer, Justice Azinge clarified that the individual in question had a pending case before her tribunal.
“I am facing an attempt at bribery from a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who has a case pending before me. There has been a flurry of monetary activity within this tribunal since yesterday. Let it be known that anyone who accepts money on my behalf will face divine retribution, affecting not only them but also their descendants for generations to come,” she firmly stated.
Justice Azinge voiced her frustration over the continual defamation of judges through allegations of bribery and the disparaging remarks often published in the media.
“Allow me to reiterate that I will not entertain any further attempts to offer me money. I am content with the blessings God has bestowed upon me, and I have a comfortable home over my head,” she declared.
