KEDCO Announces Renewable Energy Projects in Franchise Communities.

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) is pleased to announce that a Consortium of Weisky (a Chinese EPC firm) and Bagaja Renewables is set to embark on the execution of 1MWp interconnected solar mini-grid projects in Hadejia, Gumel, Kafin Hausa, Ringim, Dutse and Kazaure communities of Jigawa State, in line with our strategic partnership with the Jigawa State Government.

Additionally, KEDCO has issued an Invitation to Developers Furthering, through a Request for Proposal (RFQ) to welcome developers interested in embedded and mini-grid projects across the DISCO franchise area.

This initiative aims to build on the successes of Bagaja’s pioneering 1MWp interconnected mini-grid in Zawaciki, Kano, encouraging further innovation and development in renewable energy.

Also, KEDCO is already in advanced planning stages of other upcoming Mini-Grid Projects including, a 1MWp project in Katsina’s Barhim Estate and a significant 2.5MWp project in the Kura/Karfi rice milling cluster in Kano. Like others, these projects are expected to have a transformative impact on local economies and livelihoods through provision of stable and clean energy.

These projects are set to revolutionize energy provision in these areas, offering reliable and sustainable electricity to the communities.

The Managing Director/CEO of KEDCO, Abubakar Yusuf, expressing enthusiasm on these initiatives, said “Our partnership with Bagaja Renewables and Weisky, coupled with the upcoming projects, represents a major leap towards achieving energy sustainability and economic empowerment in Northern Nigeria.

Through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts, we are paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.”

“We are anticipating the positive outcomes these projects will bring to the communities we serve and remain dedicated to exploring further opportunities to expand our renewable energy initiatives.” He added.

KEDCO is committed to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to Kano, Katsina, Jigawa States and environs.

Through innovative solutions and partnerships, KEDCO aims to lead the way in renewable energy adoption and sustainable development in Nigeria.
