KEDCO Clarifies Reasons Behind Picketing of Its Offices by National Union of Electricity Employees (NUUE)

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano.

The management of Kano Electricity Distribution PLC (KEDCO) has clarified that the recent industrial action resulting in the picketing of its offices by the NUEE is due to long-standing staff welfare issues that have accumulated over the past six years.

In a press statement issued by the KEDCO management to the media in Kano, it was stated that “since taking over in July 2022, the current management has been prioritizing staff welfare and other entitlements, ensuring they are settled as they fall due. Robust plans have been drawn up, and the outstanding issues are being addressed in batches due to the current liquidity crisis in the power sector,” the statement added.

The management assured all concerned parties that they are actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve these issues and discuss lasting solutions to all ongoing matters.

“While acknowledging that the Union is now eager to resolve these issues that have persisted for over six years, the current management remains committed to meeting all staff obligations,” the statement concluded.
